Today I received a phone call from a lady who found our web site, but had some trouble locating our contact information. She’s kind enough to take the time to tell us that.
Thanks for the feedback, Patricia! Our phone number is now prominently located at the top of the right column, under our logo.

Some great news to share with you: Star Bamboo just inked a substantial US dollar six-figure deal with an established distributor of handcrafted home accessories and gift-ware.
We will be producing eco-friendly bamboo chopping boards for them to be distributed via supermarkets in Germany.

We have been expanding beyond bamboo flooring for some time now, and it’s heartening to finally see our efforts and quality recognised by a major European company.
Bamboo is such a versatile material, we have only just started scratching the surface of what is possible with it.
The hardness of bamboo makes it a logical choice for chopping boards. But did you know that bamboo also has natural anti-bacterial which helps to prevent bacterial growth? This gives great peace of mind for our users.
That is why bamboo chopping boards is superior to plastic ones. Wooden chopping boards are good too, but do we really want to be chopping down yet more trees?

Some great news to announce:
The Managing Director of Star Bamboo group of companies, Mr Tan Yin Keong, has been appointed into the SingCham (Fujian), as the Vice-President of the Nanping district.
In case you’re wondering, SingCham (Fujian) is the Fujian Chapter of the Singapore Chamber of Commerce and Industry in China.
It was officially launched on 9 August 2007 at a dinner of 600 people, which coincides nicely with Singapore’s 42nd National Day. The purpose is to assist Singapore companies in Fujian by providing easier access to government programmes, and creating opportunities for networking.
Fujian province has seen explosive growth this year, with an annualised GDP growth of 14.3% in the first half of 2007. This is higher than the national average for China. It’s great to be able to join in this boom.
There weren’t many photo opportunities that night, as everyone were busy networking. Here’s a shot before the start of the event:

I’ve met a lot of interested and enthusiastic customers in Singapore whose budget unfortunately couldn’t stretch to accommodate bamboo flooring.
After spending a large sum of money on the property, many people didn’t quite leave enough for the renovation.
As a result, they have to settle for cheaper alternatives like laminate flooring. Laminate floors might be cheap, but it lacks the warmth and cosiness of natural wood.
That is a real pity. After all, flooring is usually the first thing that people notice about a new home, office or shop. The look and feel of the flooring sets the tone for the entire room.

Secondly, the installation of pre-finished bamboo flooring requires technically skilled workers. It is different from say, teak parquet floors, which are site-finished. Such floors are more easier to install, so the installation cost is lower.

Site integration: If you’re a regular visitor here, you will notice that the blog (previously hosted at http://starbamboo.wordpress.com/) has now been fully integrated with the corporate web site.
Easier navigation: This means you can now find information on our products much more easily. Instead of having to access a different web site, just start with the links at the top.
Different start page: The default page for the web site is our home page. To read the latest blog posts, simply click on the “Recent posts” section to start.
Design and colour scheme: There is also a whole new look, a timely revamping of the design. We have gone for a clean, sleek look. You can even change the colour scheme yourself using the switcher button at the upper right hand corner of the site – available colours are green, red, and blue.

I’ve just received the programme schedule from SEC for the Singapore leg of the Live Earth event this Saturday. It’s just 4 days away!
Because of the time zone difference, the programme is spread out over 7 and 8 July. So there’s your entire weekend all planned out for you.

It’s like Live Aid’s younger brother.
It’s also Al Gore’s latest project. Formerly known as the person who lost a US Presidential Election, he is now the face of the crusade against global warming:
The “7” in the dates also stands for the 7 continents where the various concerts will be held. Isn’t that cool? 
As Star Bamboo is a Green Label recipient, I got an email on what’s happening in Singapore from our friends over at Singapore Environment Council (SEC):

On 7th July Saturday at Merlion Park One Fullerton, there will be a LIVE EARTH Satellite Concert Screening. (http://www.liveearth.org)
The screening will kick off in the morning (as Australia Sydney will be the first to start the ball rolling). We are pleased to have a big screen at One Fullerton to bring you the best from all over 7 continents. It is Free Admission.
The concert is set to feature over 100 headlining music acts, across all seven continents. Artists such as Madonna, Alicia Keys, The Smashing Pumpkins, Black Eyed Peas, Bon Jovi, Kylie Minogue, Snow Patrol and Jennifer Lopez are among the big names who will grace the show.
If you are attending, as a please bring your own tupperware for drinks and food, as concert shows always produces a lot of trash.
Reduce Waste First, followed by Recycling.

It is really astonishing to see the blog stats go crazy. I thought my eyes were bluffing me, but we were indeed getting 10 times our previous record high. It made our traffic graph look like a flat line with a sharp spike at the end.

I’ve heard others talk about the Digg effect, where a web site featured prominently on Digg.com can experience a surge in traffic. But experiencing it today really made me aware of how powerful the Internet is. In our own way, everyone has the power to influence opinions and decision.
